2 hr Instructional Video (digital download)
16 page Workout Guide E-book

It has taken me over 18 years to learn and assimilate the information taught in this video so that a beginner taking up the sport of boxing can maximize their early development and save hundreds of hours of pain and agony trying to figure things out.  This guide will not only teach you how to box, it will save you from potential injury and the unnecessary repercussions of training, as well as teach you how to train independently and guide your own progress.

In this 2 hour comprehensive instructional video and 16 page training handbook I want to give you everything I possibly can to help you achieve your personal goals as they relate to boxing without you having to join a boxing gym. As part of this product I also offer a video review of your technique and training, which is something I normally charge $80 for.   You also get access to my closed Facebook training group where you can share your experience with like-minded practitioners.

My guess is that you have the desire to develop yourself through boxing, but right now joining a boxing gym is not feasible for a number of potential reasons:

1. There are no legitimate boxing gyms in your area (this was my situation as a young teenager).

2. You boxed years ago and want to start training again. You know the fundamentals but could use a quick refresher to get you back up to speed.

3. You want to join a boxing gym and want to be prepared for the process of training, you don’t want to be embarrassed or ‘taken to school’ by a coach or gym mate who is not interested in your development.

4. You already train seriously in another sport or combat sport and paying gym fees to learn boxing doesn’t make financial sense right now, boxing is often as expensive as almost any other sport.

5. You travel a lot and have family obligations that don’t allow for a predictable schedule, you want to train boxing at your own convenience.

6. You have a child or family member that you think would love boxing, but you want to let them try it out at home before taking them to the boxing gym.

7. You are an aspiring female boxer and don’t feel that the boxing gyms in your area have a welcoming and developmental environment for women.

8. You are headed off to school or vocational training and want to get started in boxing.

What I Want You Get Out of This Program

I have designed this program to help you get the most out of boxing with virtually no equipment or pre-requisite skills. You will learn boxing in terms of the individual components such as stance, footwork, offense, and defense, and you will learn how to integrate these components into a tactical flow including how to start a boxing sequence, what combinations to throw, how to escape and exit the exchange, and how to maintain continuity. Right now you do not need any equipment to take part in the training this guide has to offer, and all of the skills in this guide will carry over to the heavy bag, other training bags, the focus pads, partner drills, and sparring (when the time comes).

I have purchased a bunch of coach Jason’s programs: Boxing Footwork, Head Movement, Defense and Counterpunching, MP3 drills, etc. Coach Jason artfully breaks down the ‘sweet science’ of boxing in ways that no other boxing coach has done. Indeed, Coach Jason has a gift.

Needless to say, I learned a boatload from Coach Jason’s programs. And so I wondered if it would make sense for me to purchase the BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE. I Wondered if there would be some overlap. Well, I made the purchase and I’ve got to say that despite purchasing many of his prior programs, there was a TON of gems and ‘light bulb’ moments that I had received from the BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE. While the above-mentioned ala carte programs were helpful CHAPTERS for the beginner boxer, the BOXER’S START UP GUIDE was the ENTIRE BOXER’S BIBLE.

What you learn in the BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE is equivalent to nearly a year’s worth of lessons and fees at your local boxing club (hundreds upon hundreds for group classes that teaches at snail’s pace or thousands upon thousands for private lessons). That said, the BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE is an extreme bargain that is worth each and every penny.

Coach Jason: Thank you for all that you do for the sport. And thank you for sharing your talents to those that share you passion.

One of the best and most precise, detailed instructional videos on boxing on veb.very precise explanation and at the same time simple understanful book guide for training most impirtant things. You will learn true boxing skills and with training and repeating them see quick results ( i see it in sparing and competiton!) Just do what jason say.

If your having any doubts, put them away and get this product! Perfect for the person who doesn’t have ready access to a professional gym and/or coach, but wants to learn what and how to “properly’ practice and train to reach their goals.

Thank you, Coach Jason, for taking the time to put this material together. You are truly helping those of us who love the sweet science of boxing!

I genuinely enjoyed this guide as much as the other Jason’s more specific instructional videos such as the footwork instructional video, the head movement instructional video and the defense & counterpunching instructional video. And I found important new things in the guide that built up to what I had grasped from the those specific videos. All this I believe saving me hundreds of hours of try-outs and discussions with various coaches with different styles and hence answers to the same technical questions. For me Jason teaches essence and I am confident that, being a beginner and recreational player with no competitive prospects nor ambitions (and not just because of that),it would take me few years to learn from vast majority of the local gym coaches (a number of them I know) what Jason explains in one hour of this guide.

After having watched many of Jason’s YouTube videos and using them as the basis of my instruction to learn the art of boxing, I decided to take the plunge and purchase the BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE. This was not an easy decision as I’m generally paranoid about purchasing from the internet but thankfully placing the order was no problem at all.

As for the product itself, It actually took me by surprise. Initially I was thinking i’d just paid for a feature length YouTube video but I was very wrong.

What Jason has produced is a very well thought out, well structured, and well presented guide for any boxing beginner. I’d actually go further and say even for the more experienced boxer its worth purchasing and reviewing as there is going to be content you’ll understand for the first time because of how well the information is presented by Jason.

Personally, I spar once a week and I’ve been seeing tangible improvements week on week. I’m also improving faster than anyone else at my gym and I have this product to thank for it.

  6. Leigh (verified owner)

Great information given and Jason really breaks stuff down. Awesome that something like this is out there 🙂

  7. Miroslav (verified owner)

Just excellent! No problem with payment (even from non-dollar accaunt). Product arrived immidietly after purchase. Quick and smooth.
To the content: It’s priceless. For beginner without coach simple the best stuff to get. Jason is naturally very good teacher. The way he puts things into display is great. Realy easy to understand. He breaks down things into the basics. Explains every move and technique in simple, effective way. It can also be seen that he has a lot of experience with coaching. He knows what are the common mistakes of almost all beginners and he’ll tell you how to prevent them.
Contains all you need to know to become a boxer with strong foundation.
I want to thank Jason for his hard work he put into this and other articles and videos. He’s passionate and enthuasiastic about box and everything related. And it can be felt. And mainly he knows his stuff!!
    Sorry for my english.
If you hesitate than stop. It’s worth it.
    Train hard and enjoy!

    Best boxing tutorial, possibly ever!

  9. Gregory

To be honest, at first I was hesitating with buying this training course. The reason was simple: huge variety of different videos, including free videos on YouTube and other stuff. And after reading tons of reviews about JT’s training programs I have decided to take a closer look at his courses. And I definitely loved what I saw!
After a week of using the course, I can tell, that Jason is the most technically skilled boxing coach you might ever see! His approach to teaching is amazing! He breaks down every move and aspect of punching, defence, basic footwork and basic head movement. This training course is a fundamental program for every boxer. Thank you for everything you do, Jason!
    Best regards, G.

I decided to start practicing boxing in my daily workout about a year ago and became more and more obsessed with it until it eventually took over everything! I was enjoying myself whacking away the bag everyday until a few months later when I suffered a boxer’s fracture in BOTH hands — big wake up call that I didn’t know what I was doing.

Though I was out of commission for a while, I decided that I wanted to continue with boxing but knew I would need some instruction. I lucked out when I discovered Jason’s YouTube channel because his teaching style really matches my learning style — small increments and empowering to someone working on their own without a coach/team/gym. I got really into Jason’s YouTube videos during that time and was very inspired by his thoughts on working through an injury. For instance, it wouldn’t have occurred to me to keep focusing on footwork for all those months when I couldn’t strike anything. I did just that and now I feel like I excel in that area.

I set it as personal goal/reward that once the doctor gave me the OK to hit stuff again I would go ahead and purchase Jason’s BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE. It’s been everything I hoped — all those essential details and philosophies that I was missing (and knew I was missing) by not joining a gym are in this video and I feel like I’m gaining confidence with my skills daily.

I really like the way he’s broken the information down and then applied to a workout plan — I’m the sort of guy who likes to follow steps so the workout guide has been great. It’s even more inspiring to look down the road at the levels to come and imagine where I’ll be in a few months. Throughout the last year I’ve had the mentality that I was basically just into this for exercise — not really down to fight. Lately, however, I’ve felt more and more interested in sparring and confident that I wouldn’t be instantly outclassed by a sparring partner.

All sorts of goodies come bundled with this product — I highly recommend it for anyone!

  11. Taner Ismailoglu

I would highly recommend this instructional to any anybody that wants to understand the basics and fundamental flow of boxing. The video Jason produced explained everything i could ask and have been wondering about in a very clear and easy way to understand, while i was watching this video i wondered to myself “how come when i spent hundreds of dollars on personal trainers (who ware pro boxers) i was never explained %80 of this essential information. In my opinion the Boxers-start up guild is worth every dollar.

Highly recommended! This is my first product from coach Jason and definitely not the last!

  14. chrishntd (verified owner)

Realy good product, all the basics are well organised and explained. We can feel that coach Jason puts as much work in his pedagogy as in his boxing. The precision, economy, and calm in this product are just ideal for a beginner. No tricks, just relevant words. He has a superior insight of the beginner’s experience, that comes from deep reflexion and high dedication. I’m a medical student, i don’t have time to go in the gym, and was worried about my physic condition. Coach Jason provided this alternative concept : boxing on your own terms. I learned at home, at the start it was just for fun, but now i can tell that my life’s quality did a significant upgrade. I always find great advices in his vids, about boxing but also about life in general. It’s a pleasure to see how he kept his intervention simple along the years, closed to the reality.
Thanks you for the authenticity and the hard work.

Earlier this year I wanted and needed to gain an edge and an advantage to win, so I sought out the best. 8 weeks later, I won a Master’s World Championship!

I have been progressing utilizing Jason Van Veldhuysen’s training videos and tips.

Still a work in progress, I plan to grow and strengthen my trade craft with Jason’s help, knowledge, and devotion.

I’m extremely pleased with the course material and Jason’s personalized attention.
The evidence is in the results.

Alot of great things in this package. I’ve been wanting to learn to box for awhile now but unfortunately there are now boxing gyms in my area. . This certainly helps alot… thank you!

  17. Allison young-berkowitz (verified owner)

Awesome video! Really breaks down the basics. Something to watch over and over to help keep your techniques crisp. Looking forward to getting to rest of the videos . Keep up the great work Jason. Communication is a key factor in teaching and you seem to have it down to a science. Worth every penny! Love the virtual sparring at the camera.

Several months ago (almost one year), I started as boxing coach in my country. From the begining, I was trying to define a natural progression to teach boxing for beginners. When I purchased the Jason’s “BOXER’S START-UP GUIDE” I found it. This is the best way to learn boxing from the scratch. But if you are an experienced boxer or a Pro, this would help you to remind all of these forgotten technics that, usually, need to be remembered or, even, to learn some new. It is, absolutely, recommendable. It is very usefull. Thank you Jason and, please, continue like this.

Thank you Pedro for such great feedback.

  19. Marco (verified owner)

Great instructional video on the rudiments of boxing. Jason breaks down the technique very well. In my case I joined a boxing gym but being away for work during the week I only attend during the weekends. The first few lessons I was literally bombarded with information, offensive and defensive technique, etc. Jason’s BOXER’S STARTUP GUIDE really helped me a lot understanding, memorizing, and putting into practice quickly the basics in the art of boxing.

  20. Carl

This really help me when I first started boxing . JT explains and demos everything in a easy to learn way . If your starting out this is a must . Also the quality of the video is excellent . Highly recommend.
    Thank you Jason

Started training age 24. One thing about late start, your fully developed. Worked half days only. Soon trainer wanted me full time. How can I train full time with no money coming in? Put your girl friend on the street. Don’t you know, all fighters are pimps. I’ve learned more from watching just one of your dvd’s then 8 months in a boxing gym in Oakland CA.

  22. Joshua L. (verified owner)

Like a some other reviewers, I was reluctant to spend the money on this video because I figured that there were plenty of Youtube videos available for free—videos by Jason and by others on Youtube. I was convinced to purchase it after I bought the heavybag audio workout simply because I felt there was so much that I needed to improve on that I didn’t even realize until they were pointed out in the audio (foresight on Jason’s part).

While I have seen many other instructional boxing videos, and have trainers occasionally tell me things here and there, I don’t think any of these videos or occasional trainers (a private/dedicated coach is another thing) have the sort of insight that Jason offers in his video. This insight comes, in part, from the fact that Jason has fielded questions from all over the internet for the past several years and so knows keenly what people (whether beginning, intermediate, or advanced) need to fix or be aware of.

So, on a whim, I bought this video and have been watching it bit by bit throughout the day. I have listened to the whole thing through and have seen the video about halfway through. I must say that while what he covers in the video is ‘basic,’ it is great for any level student of boxing, because the basics of boxing are really the most fundamental building block to one’s game.

Not only is this two hour start up guide organized in a very systematic fashion (unlike many of the Youtube videos which are great, but can appear unordered, going from topic-to-topic), but it puts a lot of what is covered in Jason’s Youtube videos within a broader context so that one is able to see the connection between various aspects of the sweet science.

This is a worthy investment, in my opinion. It is a video I will be returning to again and again.

I am a Chinese, of course, the network is without borders, I passed the international payment buy Jason tutorial, feel very good, of course, Jason’s boxing teaching technology has been widely spread in China, we all feel very good。

I hadn’t boxed since college (I’m now 36) and I had almost completely lost motivation to go to the gym and lift weights day in and day out. I started watching some of JT’s videos and really enjoyed his method, detail, and enthusiasm. When I saw the start-up guide, I knew I had to pick it up so I could relearn and improve my fundamentals. I’m now sparring and working out 6 days a week at my local gym using this guide as a blueprint for my training. I’m readying up for my first amateur fight with confidence.

  25. Graeme Gunn (verified owner)

The boxer’s start-up guide is a great product. I boxed a bit years ago and am now planning on getting back into it more seriously with the hope of doing some competitive sparring or even sanctioned amateur fighting. I bought the guide so I can learn proper technique and will be in good form when I join a boxing gym in a few months. The guide is perfect for this and it’s very convenient to learn in the comfort of my garage. Occasionally I use a regular gym to get some time on the heavy bag.

I’m really happy with the guide because it’s easy to use. JT’s instructions and demonstrations are clear and he has designed it so you start with simple things and build up to more complicated and technical aspects of boxing. The result is a very rewarding process that builds confidence. The progression keeps it interesting. I watched the video through start to finish then started on the workout. I still go back to sections of the video to check the technique and learn new movements.

Can’t wait to work through the whole programme.

Excellent boxing instructional. The video is full of great basic techniques, explained with a good deal of detail and the guide lays out planned training sessions for any skill level. Highly recommend this and will definitely purchase more products in future.

  27. Plamen

The best guide to get you familiar with the basics of boxing. A lot of detailed instruction on each move and drills to practice it. I recommend it to everyone from beginner to advanced as you will see a lot of details you might have missed or not understood.

Boxing has been on my bucket list for some time. As a true beginner, I could not have asked for a more professional introduction to boxing. Watching videos on the Precision Striking YouTube channel got me curious, and Jason’s Start-Up Guide equipped me with boxing skills & techniques in a cohesive, concise, non-confrontational way. No more spectating!

Thank you for sharing your talents with us, Jason— as a virtual coach, teacher and boxer!

This is the best instructional I have ever seen on internet…There is no boxing gym in my area.So me and my buddies practice boxing on our own and our coach is the Internet. After watching Jason on youtube we checked his website and dicided to get this instructional. We have seen many instructional on internet but nothing is near to this guide.Jason has a natural talent for breaking down techniques and teaching people..Anyone who wants to learn and improve their boxing right way should give this program a try.

  30. Richard Liu (verified owner)

I am relatively new to boxing but have trained with several different coaches trying to find the right one.
Although some parts of the video I should know already(eg jab, cross), Jason’s explanations explain the correct stance, footwork, positioning etc. You may not get this detail if you attend a general group class.
The video works well with his YouTube channel as it enhances my understanding.
I would recommend watching this video in small parts and practicing the certain moves first, rather than watching it whole. Even though the segments are quite short, there is a lot of detail which could be lost if just passively watching.

  31. petermilo (verified owner)

Excellent training video to get you started in boxing and more. The best boxing instructiin video I have seen. Jason provides clear concise explanations on all the fundamentals of boxing.I am so impressed with this video that I have purchased many other of Jason’s videos and have not been disappointed. Keep up the great work Jason

I’ve been really loving all of Jason’s videos on youtube and discovered the Precision Striking website. I’d been looking for something different that would keep me more engaged working out than just stair climbers, running and weight lifting. I appreciate his clear instruction and excellent technique and he has so many different ways to engage at different levels that there is always something fresh to do. The training plan combined with videos gives you everything you need to get started and I would recommend to anyone looking for a new kind of workout with meaning behind it.

  33. Gary (verified owner)

I have been using this program for over a year now, and I still go back to different sections every weekend. It has helped me so much in the gym and more important in the ring. Great work Jason!

  34. Oliver (verified owner)

After some month of more than less aimless training I decided to make a fresh start with Jasons Boxer’s Start-up Guide.
After reading the booklet and watching the provided videos I forged a time- and trainings plan to systematically follow the advices Jason provided.
Granted, the preliminary boxing part is still none of my favorites since its goes really down to the basic but looking back it helped me to realize and correct many of the all the slight mistakes in my basic techniques like jab or food work.
Next week I will move to the beginner level and incorporate some combos in my training which Jason provides with the start-up guide.
For me the invest in the start-up guide is absolutely paying and I am more than happy to participate in Jasons knowledge. It helps me to move my boxing to the need level.

    Best regards form Germany

    Oliver

  35. Blaine (verified owner)

    So worth the purchase price.

To show how inspiring the program is, I’m 54 years old, did my first workout 16 days ago and haven’t taken a day off yet. I am now up to 14 rounds each workout and finish drenched in sweat. Today I learned the last punch, including off-arms (except for the 3 which are unsuitable for off-arm). Considering that I’m ahead on some things and behind on others (according to the “FWIW” section below), I think I’m now easily within Jason’s Beginner stage/level.

What keeps me going is that, unlike several other sports I’ve done, there is obvious improvement every single day. I still have so much to learn that I don’t think I’ll hit any walls for a long time yet. Unless you are a savant, I recommend that other beginner students keep studying the videos day after day to keep refining your technique– it’s just impossible to remember all of the fine points without repeated study. A tip that makes this repeated study much more efficient is to split the video down into the 27 sections. That makes it much more convenient to review one skill or to find a precise point that you remember. (For UNIX users like me I recommend MP4 for splitting video. That eliminates skipping and audio offset problems you get if you use ffmpeg).

FWIW, here are some slight modifications I made. I am a beginner and I am open to be corrected on any of these.
    1. Drilling every day because my I can tell my body is recovering fine (with exception of the next bullet item). (Jason recommends 3-4 times/week.) I also do abs, bench presses, and box jump / burpee HIT 2 days/week. I do plan to cut back to 6 days/week and start using a heavy bag shortly.
    2. I definitely need about 2 days’ rest between balance-on-fist drill https://youtu.be/F8j3Qegduy8 drills. For 12 days I did these every day and found that was a big mistake. My knuckles ached all day long, hurt to flex my fingers, etc. Because of this mistake, I’m only up to 1 minute on these after starting at 50 seconds.
    3. I don’t do the drill that Jason calls “Hands to Chin with Eyes Closed” or “Eyes Closed and Hand to Chin Drill”. For one thing, I don’t need my eyes closed to feel my hand touch my chin. Every punching drill I do I am practicing returning my fist to my chin and I have no problem with it. For me personally I had problems blinking when I had Judo lessons decades ago, so I want to keep my eyes open.
    3. I plan to quit the pivot and rockback drills once I’m fully conditioned to them. These are important to get conditioned for balance and speed, but it feels like I’m also un-training proper boxing stance and strict-form jabs.
    4. For my first phase I am concentrating strictly on all atomic skills (footwork, punches, and defense), purposefully skipping combos and counter-punching, and not working on speed. I plan to send Jason videos of my individual skills shortly. Once I have all individual skills at a respectable level, I’ll move on to those other things with confidence.

Hi I’m Ronnie I can remember when I first started boxing I was lost and confuse and didn’t know how to put the pieces together. I was traing at the gym almost every day and some of the guys would tell me my coach is not training me correctly and I need to get a different coach but to make a long story short I was surfing the net one day and I stumbled across the boxing start up guide . At first I kind of skeptical about it due to the fact there alot of scams on the net so I decided to take a gamble with the product so I purchase it and let me just say this this was the best boxing investment I could every make all you got to do is listen to coach Jason and practice and do the drills in the video I promise you will see progress I know I came a long way from just watching the boxing start up guide and that’s not all I purchase almost all coach Jason products and to me he should sell them more than he’s selling them for his products and wisdom and knowledge to the sport of boxing is priceless in my opinion I would like to say thanks coach Jason for sharing your knowledge to the sport of boxing.
